Hospital de la Sante Creu i Sant Pau was a hospital until June 2009. The complex was built between 1901 and 1930 by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

History
The Paris banker Pau Gil was an original Catalan and after his dead he left a large sum money in his will for the construction of a hospital in his original city, to be named in honour of his patron saint.
Constructions began in 1901, and in 1911 there were already 8 blocks of the complex in use. In 1913 brought Lluís his son Pere Doménech i Roura to the project. Father and son worked together on the hospital until Lluís Domènech i Montaner´s death in 1923, he was 73 years old. The construction continued until 1930 led by his son, Pere Doménech i Roura. The hospital is the largest complex in Modernist style. The architect planned to create 48 individual buildings in a square. Outside the hospital is the church, which is also part of the hospital complex. Its floral decoration and use of sculptures by the best artists of the period emphasize in a remarkable way the structure of the buildings.

For Doménech i Montaner it was essential to be able to give sick people a feeling of well-being and beauty, according to him beauty has therapeutic value. After almost a century of existence and uninterrupted public use, the Hospital de Sant Pau has international respect from both the medical, architectural and artistic points of view.

The Hospital de Sant Pau is equally dared in its design and decoration, while at the same time the building was perfectly suited to the needs of the sick.

It was a fully functioning hospital until June 2009, it is currently undergoing restoration to build a museum and cultural center. There are still tours of the hospital being given several times a day.

The main facade has three bodies, the central wider, chaired by the figure of the Archangel Michael in the arch of the main entrance, and John Bosco in the above pediment.

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (English: Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family) commonly known as the Sagrada Família, is a large Roman Catholic church designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926).

Since the first stone in 1882, the church is still not complete. Estimated is that the church will be ready in 2026-2028. The process of the church depends of the amount of money the visitors bring into the church. The construction budget for 2009 was €18 million. In the beginning only two people worked on the Sagrada Família, now there are more than one hundred people involved, including fifteen Architects.

History
Francisco de Paula del Villar designed the church for free. He designed it in the then prevailing neo-Gothic style. Fransisco began the construction of the crypt in 1882, but after a disagreement he was fired. From here on Gaudí took over. Gaudí finished the crypt under the original designs of Fransesco, but after he followed his own ideas. Gaudí has designed many beautiful buildings like Casa Milá, Casa Batllo and Park Guell but the Sagrada Família is his absolute masterpiece. It was also his last work. Gaudí devoted the last years of his life to the church. In 1926 Gaudí was hit by a tram, and died some days later. He was buried in the crypt of the Sagrada Familia.

Style
The style of the church is variously likened to Spanish Late Gothic, Catalan Modernism and to Art Nouveau or Catalan Noucentisme. While the Sagrada Família falls within the Art Nouveau period. Gaudí carried the Art Nouveau style far beyond its usual application as a surface decoration.

The church will have three facades that each represent a stage of the life of Jesus; the facade of the birth, the facade of suffering and the front is the façade of the glory, each with four bell towers.
The church is just a few meters below the Montjuïc, the highest hill in Barcelona. Gaudi did this out of respect for The Creator: he does not want to exceed with his building in height.

Visitors can access the Nave, Crypt, Museum, Shop, and the Passion and Nativity towers. Discover la Sagrada Familia yourself!

The Bullfight arena Las Arenas de Toros was build in 1900, but nowadays it is a huge shopping mall of 6 floors. The arena is located next to Placa Espanya, nearby the MNAC and the magic fountain.

The Arena was designed by the architect August Font i Carreras in 1900. The 52 meters of diameter arena has a capacity of 16,000 people. Many bulls and men have fought some bloody fights here. For over 75 year the arena was filled with people who watched and enjoyed the show of fighting man and bulls. Besides bullfights, the arena also hosted a few concerts(like the Beatles in 1966), rallies, boxing, the circus, and it was a military headquarter during the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. The last bullfight took place in June 1997 and the arena stood empty until architect Richard Rogers made plans for a commercial complex in 1999.

The shopping mall finally opened in 2011 and the project had a total cost of 70 million euros. It contains 104,576 meters square and 116 outlets spread over six floors, three dedicated to shopping space and three leisure space. You will find shops like Desigual, Mango, White, Sephora, Swarovski and Punt Roma. But there is also a cinema with 12 sales, a spa, restaurants, the Rock museum and a panoramic view on the rooftop. It is one of the largest domes in Europe, 27 meters high and 300 meters of circular route, from which will provide a 360 degree view of Barcelona.Las Arenas also offer more than 1,700 places for cars and even more for motorbikes with its four-storey car park.
